Corporate relocation · Omaha

Relocating to Omaha for Union Pacific.

Union Pacific Center, 1400 Douglas Street, downtown

Union Pacific has been headquartered in Omaha since the railroad was built, and people relocating in are frequently doing so on a company timeline rather than their own. The upside of a downtown office is that every direction works — the choice is genuinely open.

Where people live

Downtown is served by the interstate from every direction, so the practical radius is wide.

Old Market
Walk to the office. Brick, cobblestone, and the densest concentration of restaurants in the state.
Blackstone & Dundee
Ten minutes out, with character housing and a main street of their own.
Council Bluffs, Iowa
Across the river, often materially cheaper, and closer to the office than much of West Omaha. Worth a look before dismissing it.
West Omaha & Elkhorn
Where most families end up: newer stock, larger lots, and a twenty-five minute interstate run.

How a relocation actually goes

  1. 01

    Before you accept

A call, and if it helps, a tour. Bill has driven corporate and medical candidates around this city for forty years — often before they had taken the job. Knowing what your package actually buys changes the negotiation.

  2. 02

    One trip, properly used

Neighborhoods, schools and the commute driven at the hour you will actually drive it. Most relocations get one visit; it should not be spent guessing.

  3. 03

    Buying from out of state

Video walkthroughs, a representative in the room, and someone who will tell you when a house is wrong for you. Bill reads construction — he estimated materials before he sold houses.

  4. 04

    Selling where you are now

We coordinate with your agent at the other end so the two closings do not fight each other. That is most of what goes wrong in a relocation.

Bill holds the Certified Relocation Professional designation and has worked with corporate recruiters bringing candidates to Omaha for four decades. If you are a recruiter rather than the candidate, send them this page — or call and he will take the tour himself.
